Abstrakt

The text is concerned with the reactions to Leaving Neverland (Dan Reed 2019), the documentary about James Safechuck and Wade Robson and their told expierence of sexual abuse by the hand of Michael Jackson. The focus lies on the questioning of their credibility, realizing that it is driven not only by human actors, but also by media structure and format. By way of example the text centers the mediated construct of true feelings and empathy as a means to detect or rather (mis)interpret credible stories of experienced suffering.
