Sternenhimmel, Sommernächte und eine Kinoleinwand am Teich: CineCollective lädt erstmals zu Kaleidoskop – Film und Freiluft am Karlsplatz. An 22 Sommerabenden entsteht mitten in der Stadt, unter freiem Himmel, ein cineastisches Kaleidoskop, so vielfältig wie das Leben in Wien. Brüchigkeit, Wandelbares und das Zusammenspiel bunter Versatzstücke, aus denen immer wieder Neues, Unerwartetes entsteht, machen auch das Programm aus.
31 Spiel-, Dokumentar- und Kurzfilme aus rund 20 verschiedenen Produktionsländern, darunter fünf Österreich- und drei Wienpremieren, verschränken unterschiedliche Realitäten, Lebensentwürfe und Narrative auf der Leinwand und öffnen Raum für Gedanken und Gespräche. Kaleidoskop ist ein Filmfest vielfältiger Stadtgesellschaften. In den Intros zu den Filmen bespielen lokale Künstler_innen und Teilcommunities die Freiluft Bühne mit Performances, künstlerischen und diskursiven Formaten. Filmvermittlung findet in den Intros als integraler Teil des Programms jeweils am Veranstaltungsbeginn in Form von innovativen künstlerischen und partizipativen Intervention statt.
Kaleidoskop legt einen kuratorischen Schwerpunkt auf das Zusammenleben im urbanen Raum und den damit verbundenen kulturellen, architektonischen, gesellschaftspolitischen Entwicklungen. Gemeinsam mit dem Wien Museum setzt CineCollective im ersten Kaleidoskop-Sommer zum »Takeover« am Karlsplatz an und die Kunsthalle Wien ist mit ihrer aktuellen Ausstellung »Hysterical Mining« ebenso auf der Kaleidoskop-Bühne in Kooperation mit der Universität Wien zu Gast.
Alle Veranstaltungen finden täglich um 21h bei freiem Eintritt statt.

A star-filled sky and summer nights, a big screen by the pond: CineCollective welcomes to its inaugural open-air film festival at Karlsplatz titled Kaleidoskop.
Over the span of 22 summer nights, a cinematic kaleidoscope unfolds in one of Vienna’s most iconic settings. Mirroring the multiplicity of urban spaces, brittle and volatile, ever changing, a moving-dancing prism of life. This year’s films present an inspiring mix of the unexpected and new.
31 feature, documentary and short films from around 20 different countries weave together a myriad of lived realities, artistic experiments and evolving narratives, in turn, opening up new spaces for thought and conversation.
Kaleidoskop identifies as a film festival of diverse urban identities. Local artists and communities capture the open air stage with interventions and performances ahead of each film screening. In cooperation with the Wien Museum, we set the scene for an artistic, cinematic »takeover« of Karlsplatz. Contextual tags accompany the kaleidoscopic summer linking together the vast array of films offered in this year’s program.
Let us turn the wheel of the cinematic kaleidoscope, shifting perspectives and imagining change, be provoked, tempted and softened. Settle in and enjoy the screenings.
