UZA II Rotunde Room 2H558 (and streaming)
To mark the 90th anniversary of the Spanish Civil War, an issue of the journal Fotogeschichte (No. 176) was published. Taking its start from this issue and its focus on war photography and gender, this symposium widens the lens to question the “grain” (following the duality of presence and absence in Barthes 1972) of shifting practices of Cultural Memory (Assmann 1992) opposite an official Memorial Culture. It does so from a shared perspective of Theater, Film and Media Studies that highlights the performativity of memory in its material and societal imprints.
